Make a cute and versatile robe jacket, with a comfortable fit, awesomely large pockets, and beautiful bias tape finish in the fabric of your choice.
It’s a perfect easy project for a beginner sewer, or a chance to work on technique and fine finishes for a more advanced sewer.
Working with the Robe Jacket pattern of your choice you’ll learn how to:
- do basic pattern adjustments included lengthening, shortening, & grading between sizes
- make beautiful custom bias binding
- bind edges and hems using two different binding techniques
- attach patch pockets
- sew beautiful topstitching
These techniques all translate beautifully to a whole range of sewing projects, and are definitely easier if you know the best way to do them.
The class will particularly focus on bias finishing edges: a technique that is used in a whole range of sewing patterns, but which can be fiddly and frustrating to work with. We’ll give you a whole set of skills to make your bias finishes as easy and professional as possible.
Level: Suitable for those with basic fabric handling and sewing machine skills. Perfect as a follow up to Absolute Beginners.
Cost: $150 (includes a fat 1/4 of craft cotton for bias binding)
Materials: Students will need to provide the pattern, the main fabric and thread for their jacket and any notions called for in the pattern. Recommendations will be provided when you register.
Teacher: This class is taught by our awesome sewing expert Brendan Goudswaard.
